Andreas Ulmke-Smeaton, born in Marburg, studied Produktion at HFF (University for Television and Film Munich) from 1989 to 1992. The short film he produced, About War, was nominated for the student Oscar in 1992. Following this, he produced various TV movies such as Jets – Leben am Limit.
Since 1996, together with Ewa Karlström, he has managed the production company SamFilm, which among others is responsible for the films Das merkwürdige Verhalten geschlechtsreifer Großstädter zur Paarungszeit, Die wilden Kerle 1-5, Es ist ein Elch entsprungen, Sommer, Rock It!, Groupies bleiben nicht zum Frühstück, Fünf Freunde 1-4, Ostwind 1-2, and currently Die Wilden Kerle – Die Legende lebt!.
